The National Air Races were the premier aviation event for many years.  Thousands gathered to watch the airplanes arrive after long cross-country races and then stayed to see racers speed aroud the pylons.  The photo is taken from the stands which gives a great view of the field, airplanes, and what looks like promotional gifts of a stove and piano near the pond.  This is a unique piece of history.
