Color photograph of the 1930s Womens Air Reserve, signed by Bobbi Trout, pioneering aviatrix and good friend.
Pancho Barnes and LaVelle Sweeley founded the Women's Air Reserve in 1931 as an adjunct to the Army Air Corps. They wanted to provide assistance to the United States in case of war or natural disaster. When Nixon Galloway, former race pilot, saw the original black & white photo of the "WAR" group, he painted a picture in its likeness. The women are in uniform in front of the airplane. This is a photo of the original which is housed in the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Beautiful historic gift! Double matted 12" x 16"; image approx. 12" x 7"
