Bessie had to travel to France in order to learn to fly an airplane and became the first African American aviatrix. She was instrumental in assisting other African Americans to fly. The photo is matted with a stamp and envelope dated 1995 in honor of her stamp, part of the Black Heritage Series. Double matted 12" x 15"
